Welcome to the ‘4 Weeks of Listmas’ end-of-year spectacular, an all-out, month-long recap of the year’s most important music

Music writers and Santa Claus have a lot in common. Both try—despite not usually succeeding—to entertain people as much as humanly possible. Both are severely interested in what Generation Z thinks is cool. Both tend to work from home, using the written word to communicate with their audience.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, they both spend the month of December writing, checking and double checking lists. The end of the year grind is tough for everyone involved, but there’s a major payoff in the end: for Santa, it’s a chance to arbitrarily reward children based on, like, whether they remembered to take the trash out or not, and for music writers, it’s a special time to reflect.

And there was definitely a lot to reflect on this year. It’s been almost 12 full months since I introduced this blog with my Best Albums of 2017 list, and this year I’m taking things up a notch.

Welcome to XMás Importante, also known as The Four Weeks of Listmas. It’s an all-out, month-long recap of the year’s most important music. Each week, I’ll be ranking different parts of 2018’s musical landscape—from songs and music videos to artists and albums—and even throwing in a few holiday treats along the way.

You can view the full release schedule below, and links to the stories (which can all be found under the site’s new “Best of 2018” tab) will fill in as each new article comes out. Happy reading, and a merry Listmas to all:
